Rivera Elementary Receives Coveted Gold Ribbon Award

Rivera Elementary has received notification that they are a California Department of Education 2016 Gold Ribbon award recipient.

The Gold Ribbon Award is temporarily replacing the California Distinguished School recognition while the state accountability system is in transition. The Gold Ribbon Award recognizes school’s that have developed a signature practice, which has propelled their work in advancing the new Common Core State Standards. The focus for Rivera Elementary was their work in implementing Accelerated Reader and increasing literacy achievement across grades.

Typically, once an application is received a site validation visit follows. However, given the significant data provided and the many exemplars Rivera Elementary was able to articulate in their application, the California Department of Education has decided a site validation visit was not needed.

Congratulations Mr. Sermeno and the Rivera Elementary team for the continuous efforts and commitment to building a "high expectations for all" school culture and enhancing student learning.
